Randy Shannon and University of Miami football

When Larry Coker was on his way out in 2006 I was one of the first of my friends and family to throw Randy Shannon's name into my possible favorites for a coach. My father disagreed saying that he had too little experience managing an entire team. There was no doubt that Randy Shannon was one of the best Defensive Coordinators that UM has ever had but that did not convince my father that he could run the rest of the team.

Three years later and I want to be the first to say that if this is not a successful year for Shannon they should fire him. It is plenty obvious with the 1 year turn around that the Miami Dolphins have had that 3 years is enough time to allow a team to return to some form of contention. In college you have the benefit of recruiting any player you want and let's face it, UM is a jock's dream. Shannon ha shad more than enough time to turn this program around and I think this is a make or break year for him. Since his take over UM has lost 3 excellent recruits at the quarterback position and a number of pivotal and sometimes easy games. When the team gets punched in the face they dont seem to get mad, they back down. That is not Jimmy Johnson nor Butch Davis UM football.

The last 5 years of UM football have been difficult for any true supporter. Let's hope that this year they all get their act together for the sake of their fans and for the sake of a person whom seems to be a genuinely nice guy and a once great coach.
